By cleaning your chimney regularly, you eliminate health and fire hazards. Debris and ash will build up inside your chimney and fireplace during use. This will prevent proper ventilation which will trap carbon monoxide inside the chimney. This, within itself, could lead to a fire and/or place your family at risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.
How to Clean a Chimney? Step 1: Purchase chimney rods and brushes from your local hardware store. Assemble the rods and brushes according to the manufacturer's instructions. Step 2: Place a tarp in front of your fireplace. Tape plastic over the fireplace opening. Open the fireplace damper.
Step 3: Begin cleaning the chimney, pushing the brush up and down the inside. Step 4: Clean the chimney flue through the fireplace opening. Remove the plastic and tape from the opening. Use the short brush to scrub all debris from the flue. Step 5: Scrub the inside fireplace wall and floor with a stiff scrub brush. Step 6: Vacuum the ash off the fireplace floor.
